With the awesomeness of Left 4 Dead comes it’s sequel, Left 4 Dead 2. And with the addition of new games comes previews, right?
Being a serious fan of the original game, I went to check up on any news of the soon to come game, and lo and behold I found some articles about the campaigns and Left 4 Dead 2’s features.
Being the fourth of five campaigns in Left 4 Dead 2, Hard Rain offers tons of new concepts not seen before. The overall concept of the level is rain, and rain you will get! (No sorry, not the Korean Singer Rain, but the one from the sky).
As the usual team of four, your task is to journey out from your boat(which is now running low on gas), and to search the land for some more fuel. Although this task seems easy, the level only gets harder. Soon, a simple drizzle of rain becomes a heavy downpour, and the farther your progress through the level, the harder the rain will get. This rain is not just for looks however, as it is crucial and will affect your every movement and choice. Concepts like your movement speed and the use of fire are drastically affected by this new obstacle.
The aspect of an A-B-A route is also introduced, unlike the start-end routine in the original version. But going back to A isn’t as easy as remembering where you stepped, the rain makes your journey a whole new adventure than before, and although you might have taken the ground on your way to B, you might find yourself on the roofs to get back to A. Things like A.I. for increasing rain will make this game a whole new experience.
Overall I find this campaign promising. The intended release date for Left 4 Dead 2 is on November 17, 2009.
