Just two days after Japanese business newspaper Nikkei Shimbun published a rumour that Nintendo will update their current DSi with a larger 4 inch screen, Nintendo announced the DSi LL. This update was planned after customers wanted a larger screen.
The most noticeable difference between the DSi and the new DSi LL is the 93% larger screen. At 4.2 inches, it is larger than the DSi’s 3.25 inches, the PSP Go’s 3.8 inches and iPhone’s 3.5 inches but still a smidge inferior to the PSP-3000’s boastful 4.3 inches and higher resolution. The screen also has a larger viewing angle, allowing others to easily view your gaming activities (or at least I presume you’re gaming..).
Another difference is the addition of a second larger touch pen since the screen is now larger. Battery times have decreased due to the larger screen and it is heavier (now 314 grams) and bigger. The speakers on the both sides of the screen have also changed slightly.
It is aimed at older gamers and those who want to use it as an internet browser or music player. Personally, I think the release of the DSi LL is an attempt by Nintendo to reclaim the gaming market since DS sales have been falling and the Wii price cut has affected them adversely. I’m also thinking that it will appeal to the gamers who are visually impaired, i.e., me.
The DSi LL is bundled with 3 pre-installed DSiWare games: A Bit of Brain Training: Arts, A Bit of Brain Training: Science and dictionary program, Kiyou Akira Rakuhiku Language Easier.
The DSi LL will be available in Japan on November 21 in three colours: Natural White, Wine Red and Dark Brown. The pricing is 20 000 yen ($220), a slight increase from the DSi’s 18 900 yen ($205). Later Nintendo also confirmed that Europe will be getting the DSi LL early 2010 but at a dearer price.
I feel for those who have just upgraded to the DSi. I really do.
It’s the largest portable gaming console available. I think it’s intended as a stay-at-home device.
The DSi was released not that long ago, and now there’s a new one?

Sometimes the gaming industry brings the lols. I think i might die laughing when i walk into a place someday and see someone playing this. how will you hold that thing up when playing stylus based games?
I think this picture effectively shows how big the DSi LL is. N.B. The DSi LL in this pic isn’t real.

Why would they make a big one again? The original was rather big plus kind of heavy. So why go make one again and even larger?
^ Because the screen’s almost twice as large. Nintendo always comes up with these money-making schemes. They’re almost as wild as Sony’s..
