November 05, 2009. 18 year old Christian Del Amo is arrested. Why? This man tried to distribute thousands of illegal copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Set to come out tomorrow, November 10, 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games to launch this year. But it’s not November 10th yet and this kid was able to get his hands on pirated versions of the game before its release. How? That’s the crazy part.

Apparently last week, ads for Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 bundles appeared on Craigslist, sold by two friends who admitted to have taken a crate of the systems from a retail store they worked at. But what was even worse was how Christian Del Amo and his efforts surfaced. Publicly asking for donation funds to rip the game and mass pirate distribute it on a Xbox piracy forums, little did he expect IPCybercrime to get to his roots. Stupidly enough, he had put his information on the accounts he created (e-mail and all) and they were able to trace him all the way to Facebook(seriously people, Facebook is powerful nowadays, be careful what you put there). They eventually busted him before he could make too much damage.

Guess what else! Christian Del Amo already had a history of selling modded Xbox 360 systems with preloaded games worth thousands of dollars for a lot less. Sadly, the piracy prevention wasn’t fast enough, as illegal copies have already surfaced in P2P services, which probably is going to cost Activision a major damage in their sales. This kid is probably going to get in big trouble, not only with the government but with Activision too.

Lesson learned? Don’t pirate. It’s bad.

And I dunno about it being the biggest selling game of all time. Even though it is multi-platform, I still have my doubts.
