Only when I thought this current gen’s consoles couldn’t get any better, I was proven wrong. Introducing the beginning concepts of a future of gaming in 3D at the 2009 Electronic Consumers Show, Sony is starting to work hard to push for that overall amazing complexity for its systems.

Hoping to begin integrating the 3D capability into PS3 systems by 2011 or 2012, Sony has even started working on creating TVs to perform these functions in high quality. Sony states that in the future, a firmware update will give all PS3 the ability to play 3D games, but a date was not mentioned.

Although Sony would plan to create a line of 3D games specifically using these technologies, methods that take advantage of these technologies have already proven to work on old games. Check out this screenshot below, its of WipeOut in HD and 3D. All you need now is 3D glasses. I’m excited. I guess these current gen systems aren’t leaving us anytime soon, but I do wonder how much 3D games will cost.
