So I sat down with a friend a few days ago, and politely asked if he “wanted to play ODST“, and he replied quietly with, “I’ve never heard of it, but alright lets try.”.

Needless to say, it was nothing short of disaster.

I’m beginning to fear that developers are making games too complex for newcomers to transition into the gaming fold. Sure, you always start with something simple, but what struck me as amazing, was that my friend ended up getting into gaming because of Borderlands; he was already level 36 within 2 days of renting it!

The games need to be challenging, yet the premise simple, I think that starting off with the bread and butter of gaming is essential when introducing someone new to the universe of games. So, start small, don’t force it!

Even trying a hand at the online multiplayer mode with a friend that has never played before could interest them enough to game, just make sure you take it easy on them and don’t expect a stellar performance during the first round; give them some time to learn.
