We are coming close to 2010, which is promising to be a “Golden” year for gaming, with new technologies (example. Microsoft Natal) and innovations making their way to release. I’ve always considered myself a bit of pessimist, so forgive me if I sit over here on the other side of my computer fake sneezing and screaming “bull$h17!” at the top of my lungs.
Yay, we’ve got innovation coming!
Yay, we’ve got hit titles!
Yay, It’s an exciting time to be a gamer!
Those were my exact thoughts until I started thinking a little harder about what all this change could mean, and if things don’t fly the way they told us they were, it could get very messy.
I’m not just talking about the Xbox360 and Playstation 3 making a reversion to the “Wiibox360” or the “Wiistation 3“, I’m talking about how this next year could really redefine gaming; whether that new definition is positive or negative, it’ll be hard to tell.
The aspiration of the “Big 3″ is to lead us into the metaphorical promised land with the new technologies and the games that shine with them. My biggest fear, is that we as consumers are ready, but as gamers, I don’t think we’re concerned enough with the direction the Wand, and Natal could be taking us if it’s executed poorly.
This issue is really out of our hands, it’s all up to them, so I’ll leave them with some choice words on the subject. Tread carefully, there are only 2 directions you can go with this: Up or Down.
