This week Nintendo releases the next chapter in The Legend of Zelda series (Spirit Tracks). On his neverending quest to save the princess, Link has made use of many forms of transportation including but not limited to: a horse, a magical talking boat, a flying chicken, a hookshot, a magical mask and now with the newest release, a cute little train. None of the above can hang with these vehicles.

Epoch - Chrono Trigger

Japanese game developers have a knack for throwing in off-the-wall and awesome vehicles. Many RPG’s have been given sweet spaceships, awesome airships and Mechs are pretty sweet but I couldn’t be bothered giving them a spot on the list. The Epoch from Chrono Trigger is on the list because not only does it look totally awesome but it could also travel through time. The fact that the vehicle also had something to do with the game besides pure transportation also gains it some points.

Blue Falcon - F-Zero Series

There have been some pretty sweet cars in the many games in the F-Zero series but I have to give it to the Blue Falcon because c’mon, Captain Falcon drives it. Dude is a total badass. Even though the Captain Falcon levels were always the worst on Smash Brothers.

‘70 Stag Pickup - Vigilante 8

I think a lot of people forget this game but it was a great game for the Nintendo 64/Playstation One. Most of the cars were pretty boring but most of the characters had some pretty sweet special attacks. “Beezwax”, the character who drives the pickup was basically a white trash hillbilly who would send swarms of bees flying towards nearby opponents. How could you say that isn’t awesome?

Warthog - Halo series

Although it’s not really the prettiest to look at, not very fast and definitely not the safest vehicle, the Warthog almost symbolizes the Halo series and is an integral part of the multiplayer experience. Halo: Combat Evolved’s indestructible Warthogs made for some hilarious battles and the upgraded ones in later games also changed around the fighting experience.

Last but not least, what I consider the coolest videogame vehicle…

Arwing - Starfox series

Honestly, has any game really relied on how badass the vehicle is more than this game? You default thousands of useless flying vehicle spaceships, the whole Star Wolf squad AND Andross! When things got in real bad shape, you could even switch into “All Range Mode”. It spread out your wings a few feet… awesome! Last but not least, you could do a barrel roll. All you had to do was press Z or R twice! Just like that rabbit told you. Genius!

Post what you think are some cool videogame vehicles in the comments below. If you post stupid ones I’ll probably comment back and make fun of you.
