Popcorn and the movies. Television without commercials. Yoo-Hoo and a glazed donut. Some things in life are just perfect for each other. Video games and music are one of those things. While gamers are unable to control the requirement to earn that last gold trophy/achievement, they are able to control what pumps through their speakers while doing so with custom in-game soundtracks. To help change up that stale rotation of old-time favorites, the Wirebot bloggers will be providing a suggested playlist every Friday. Our recommendations this week include songs from: Dance Gavin Dance, All That Remains, Team Teamwork and a few others.
Alexa’s pick: Jenova (Piano Collections Version) - Nobuo Uematsu
Because: The score for Final Fantasy games is great but 50 hours later, the battle theme will really get on your nerves. Uematsu composes the greatest songs ever for Final Fantasy and they sound even better on the piano. Here’s one of his many awesome songs. You could just have this on repeat forever and never get tired of it.
Spencer’s pick: No Jumpercables - Team Teamwork
Because: It’s not often my music and gaming can ever be related, but I figured for the first edition of this feature i’d post a favorite of mine. I personally think this song or the Jay-Z track are the two best on the compilation. Check it out, you seriously won’t regret it.
Bill’s pick: Living Saints - Polar Bear Club
Because: Polar Bear Club released the best punk/hardcore album this year and deserve more exposure. Bands few and far between have managed to blur the punk and hardcore genre as perfectly as PBC has.
Dave’s pick: The Backwards Pumpkin Song - Dance Gavin Dance
Because: An awesome plethora of screaming, guitars, drums and beautiful vocals all wrapped up into a neat little package. Really helps me focus on the task at hand which is usually endless slaughter on Firefight.
Jeff’s pick: Two Weeks - All That Remains
Because: It’s not completely heavy death metal, so there isn’t too much screaming, more so a hoarse voice, but the upbeatness of the song + the double bass pedal = awesome hardcore gaming music. Especially when playing FPS type games like Halo or AVA or COD. The palm muting is also a love too. Metal is the best for hardcore gaming
Jordan’s pick: Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
Because: I am a hypocrite. Lets just get that out of the way. This entire cd has been making me dance in my room for days now. Once I saw some of her videos, I just started to fall in love. It is a super guilty pleasure. For some reason she reminds me of a female new age David Bowie, and I love David Bowie. Also, Christopher Walken read the lyrics to this song and it was awesomely funny. Since I haven’t played video games all week, I just danced to this instead. I guess that doesn’t really make for a good excuse as to why this song is good to play video games to but…how can you not like Lady Gaga!?

Whoa. Nice video find on Jenova. That guy plays it exactly how it sounds like on the CD.
I’m not a huge fan of screamo but that Dance Gavin Dance song is pretty good. Will definitely look out for them.
Anyone into instrumentals? Particularly the ukulele? Even if you’re not, “Ehime Maru” or “Crazy G” by Jake Shimabukuro is definitely worth a listen to. Those songs are a good introduction to his talent.
I find that bands like Meshuggah and After the Burial help me concentrate while playing shooters. Maybe it’s the repetition of weird time signatures. Lady Gaga is very good MVC2 music haha.
