An article in a recent edition of Game Informer Magazine has me drooling over the possibilities of the newest installment in the series of “Dead Rising.” Appropriately named “Dead Rising 2” the title is boasting some pretty big changes from the first title including something that all hack and slash zombie games should have: Multiplayer.
If you haven’t played the original Dead Rising then you are really missing out. Developed by one of the masters of zombie horror, Capcom, it is a down right addicting game of “you versus thousands of the lumbering undead.” Imagine the movie “Dawn of the Dead” in which a small group of individuals were trapped inside a mall with a group of brain hungry undead. Except, instead of trying to find a way to escape the mall and flee in terror you pick up the nearest golf driver and start whacking heads off shoulders. The game is truly entertaining and can keep you on edge for hours. It does have a storyline to follow and there are many different missions to adhere to but you may find yourself just running around and seeing how many zombie kin you can knock down the escalators. The game was really entertaining because of the fact that you could kill a zombie in so many different ways. You were able to pick up literally almost anything you see and use it as a weapon. Baseball bats, guns, machetes, cash registers, even frisbees.
Dead Rising 2 is promising us the same epic fun as the first title but with the addition of bringing a friend along for the ride. Multiplayer is going to be a GREAT addition to this game and will greatly enhance the replayability and fun factor. Everything is more fun when you have someone to brag about it to and when you drag along your friends they can see it in real time. While it isn’t clear exactly what the finished product will be in terms of multiplayer they did release some information about a “mini game” type style of play. Players can battle one another for the top spot in different game modes. These modes include things like “Ramsterball” in which each player is placed into a large metal “hamster ball” and rolls around smashing zombies into the ground. “Headache” is a game mode in which players try to place giant blenders atop zombies heads in the fastest time possible and “Pound of Flesh” will have characters wearing giant barbed antlers and the object of the game is to use your deer like headgear to throw zombies onto a “scale” which will then tally their overall weight. The most entertaining looking mini game has to be “Slicecycles” in which players sit upon dirt bikes with “wing like chainsaws” jutting out from either side of them. The object is simple, drive around and cut as many zombies as you can down before the time runs out.
The graphics look great and the game is going to be a wonderful addition to the Dead Rising series and promises to be another powerhouse from Capcom, which is something we expect from them now. Keep a look out for Dead Rising 2 to hit store shelves sometime in 2010.

Even with all the new graphics, levels, and new gadgets, I don’t want to play it. As a matter of fact, I don’t want to see another zombie game for a while. If there should be another be made, it should be a remake of house of the dead.(I want the gun controller and everything) I’m sure most would agree.
