Is your Kill to Death ratio getting you down? Are you feeling a little under the weather after throwing your third controller to the ground? Has your self-esteem been permanently bruised by 12 year old little boys calling you a noob? Well those time are about to end my friend. Follow our Modern Warfare 2 survival guide and you’ll be tea bagging foes in no time!

No running!
The rules in Modern Warfare are very similar to that of your local swim club. If you run, you die. At least that’s what the lifeguard always hollered at me! To ensure maximum survival, only run when absolutely necessary. Sprinting towards a dumpster to crouch behind is great. Sprinting to get to the action faster gets you dead! Spawn points in MW2 are completely random, you can re-pawn right around the corner of an enemy or half way across the map, but the same goes for the enemy, so never think you’re safe where you’re at. There’s always an enemy around the corner waiting for the unsuspecting jogger to meet their crosshairs.

Shoot, move, shoot!
Don’t stay in one place for too long. Once you make a kill, shift to another location, it doesn’t have to be too far from where you last were but far enough so that the enemy you just killed doesn’t remember your location. Whenever you fire a shot your location is shown to the entire enemy team causing them to take notice and head towards that location. A skull and cross bones logo appears on the enemy screen when one of their own is taken out, all the more reason to skedattle after a frag. By moving to a location diagonal or around the corner from where you last made a kill will disorient the enemy and you’ll be able to catch them off guard.

Don’t leave your back open
Most cover you’ll come across will only protect yo from one angle of gunfire. Be aware that after you take a shot you’ll most likely be taken out from an enemy soldier at your rear. To help eliminate this try and take cover near an ally facing a different direction than you, this way if an enemy flanks you your teammate will encounter him first. If you are playing Free For All, try and find cover that will protect you from multiple angles, corners are popular spots because your back in not left exposed and you can see all angles ahead of you.

Take the road less traveled
Robert Frost wasn’t just a poet, he was also an avid MW2 enthusiast. If there’s a clear cut path on a map, whether it be a paved road or a dirt trail, tread cautiously. Open areas like this are perfect spots for Snipers to focus on. Try avoiding these areas be moving through buildings or jumping across rooftops. It is much harder to be spotted amongst the rubble.

Don’t pitch a tent
Camping, the art of waiting patiently in a dark recess of a building in order to jump out and surprise attack an enemy is effective, but not worthwhile. Sure, you’ll get a few kills and maintain your kill to death ratio, but you’ll get many more kills if you actually play the game as it was intended. Plus with the addition of kill cams, there is little purpose to camp because the person you just killed is shown your exact location and can easily come back and fire their grenade launcher into your dirty little corner.

Find a weapon that suits your play style
Everyone plays MW2 differently, the key is to be aware of your tactics and use weapons and modifiers to enhance your unique style of play. If you “spray and prey” you won’t want to use an assault rifle that is a 3-round-burst shot, you’ll want a fully automatic weapon. If you attack from long distance use the proper scope. Snipers aren’t the answer to everything, an ACOG scope attached to an assault rifle can be just as deadly and if fired from the hip is effective at close range as well.

Set your killstreaks properly
Be realistic, if you only average 2-3 kills per death and only sometimes pull off 4-5 kills then don’t have the attack helicopter set for 7 kills on the off chance that you’ll be able to pull it off. It is much more effective to have your killstreaks set to be used at 3,4,5 kills because you’ll get to use them more often. This bring me to my next tip.

Care packages
Care packages are the most useful killstreak you can utilize in MW2. Of course you’ll end up with just ammo or UAV sometimes, but the majority of the time you’ll get something a little more useful like a sentry gun, predator missile, or harrier strike and on rare occasions you’ll get to call in a chopper or drop an EMP. The good care packages outweigh the bad in great numbers so it is at your advantage to have this killstreak. And let’s not forget that you’d probably never get to use half of the killstreaks if you had to actually earn them, so it adds to the fun as well.

Use hardline when possible
Hardline allows you to use a killstreak in 1 less kill than normal. If you have a weapon like the SCAR that has high damage already, don’t bother using stopping power, instead equip Hardline. If you use Hardline in conjunction with killstreaks set at 3, 4, and 5 kills then you’ll be able to use some very useful power ups very quickly, maximizing the amount of points and kills you’ll be able to get.

Predator Missile = Scatter
You don’t know how many times people see a predator missile coming and all run frantically away from it in a group. This is the wrong tactic on so many different levels. For one, the operator of the missile is looking for enemies standing near one another for a multi-kill. Another reason to scatter when you see the giant red rectile heading your way is to increase your chance of survival. Splitting up will cause the launcher to debate which one he should pick, which may make him land somewhere in the middle and end up missing all of you.

Don’t have reload OCD
There is no need to reload after every kill you make. Even the smallest clip in the game allows for 2 kills before needing to be reloaded. Usually where there is one enemy, there are more following shortly behind him, if you’re too busy reloading after your first kill you may get fragged by his friend.

Grenadas no trabajan
MW2 pretty much rendered any type of grenade useless. Since throwing a grenade takes a ridiculous amount of time they should only be used to flush out enemies from bunkers or similar hard to reach places. If you’re getting shot at and decide you’re going to throw a grenade as a last ditch effort, hoping after you die your grenade will get them, then you’re going to be SOL. Even if you manage to pull the pin from the grenade fast enough it will not explode until it physically leaves your hand. This can be very frustrating, but its the way it is, so only toss a grenade if your enemy is caught off gaurd and you have a supple amount of time to pull it off.

very good tips. i did all those things but rarly did i notice myself doing them.

Heyyy I just stumbled onto this. xDD

Nice introduction to tips. Some things to note though in that depending on map, the strats are going to change map to map.

My tip: Use Akimbo Rangers. Everyone else does, and they just hide in a room and kill you whenever you walk by. I hate them. More than anything.

Great tips. I just need to pick up a copy of MW2 now.

My kill/Death ratio sucks cause I can’t aim! (I’m used to mouse and kb) Hopefully this will be ok tips to help me thanks !
