Popcorn and the movies. Television without commercials. Yoo-Hoo and a glazed donut. Some things in life are just perfect for each other. Video games and music are one of those things. While gamers are unable to control the requirement to earn that last gold trophy/achievement, they are able to control what pumps through their speakers while doing so with custom in-game soundtracks. To help change up that stale rotation of old-time favorites, the Wirebot bloggers will be providing a suggested playlist every Friday. Our recommendations this week include songs from: Barenaked Ladies, BoA, Mastodon and a few others.

Patrick’s pick: It’s All Been Done - Barenaked Ladies

Because: I’ve been thinking about an AMV I made to this song a few months ago using The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi… been thinking of redoing it. And the words are so catchy… so cheerful!

Alexa’s pick: 赤鼻のトナカイ (Live Version) - BoA

Because: This song is just that Christmas classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer but sung by BoA and it sounds slightly cooler (OK, I’m just biased). But it’s a great track to listen to when playing online flash games that have annoying music or Loco Roco… The second half of the song is BoA’s latest song まもりたい ~White Wishes~ and it’s a track off of the Japanese Wii game Tales of Graces. It’s nice, hehe.

Yuliya’s pick: Umineko No Naku Koro Ni Opening Theme - Akiko Shikata

Because: Besides the fact that I have been completely obsessing over the anime (When the Seagulls Cry, for all you non-otakus), the music is absolutely EPIC. Nothing makes a video game more enjoyable than epic music.

Spencer’s pick: Crack the Skye - Mastodon

Because: This is the best song on the band’s latest album. It’s great atmospheric, spacey music with serious metal elements. Great for running around and killing zombies in Borderlands!

Bill’s pick: Be All You Can’t Be - Broadway Calls

Because: It’s a catchy, upbeat, and meaningful song. I don’t know what more you can ask for! If you’re looking for some bouncy pop-punk to get you moving, look no further. Just try not to bounce around too much or you’re totally gonna wreck that high score!

Dave’s pick: Twin Chevron Action (Remix) - SabrePulse

Because: I like to call this my “Happy fun time dancing special hour hooray”, because really, 8-bit remixes are fantastic! all of his work is free to download, and he’s got some original tracks that he’s made; it really is music to mash buttons to.

Jeff’s pick: Because of You - After School

Because: I love the rapping parts of this song, it gets me all hyped up, especially since it’s a girl rapping! Kpop is usually weird to game to, but if it has a ton of rapping in it then I’m totally up for it. Love it. The parts that lead up to the really, I dunno how to say, the climax? Is really awesome and makes me all hyped up.

Jordan’s pick: We Are The People - Empire of the Sun

Because: I don’t know what it is with me lately, but all i can listen to is funky weird electro dance music. Please don’t judge me. I have been bumping this band’s cd since summertime, and it is the perfect thing to listen to while grinding levels in RPG’s or sifting through fun flash games. It is dancey, yet has a consistent groove and spacey feel that lets my mind wander off into the soundscape. Plus their costumes are awesome. (Hey Alexa and Patrick, these guys are from your native land!)

User CONKWE’s pick: Crazy G - Jake Shimabukuro

Because: Well he forgot to tell us why, but it doesn’t really matter because did you see how fast that guy could play! Totally insane!

Ah sorry about that Shereena, I should have looked into that. :/ Great pick though!

My name’s Shereena btw. Note: Female. =) This happened before. I think my avatar does confuse people. Can’t help it though. FF fan for life!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer sung in Japanese! And by BoA too! That’s cool. I like hearing old songs I know sung in Japanese. Like “A Whole New World” and “One Jump Ahead.” I couldn’t stop giggling when I listened to it in Japanese.

I mentioned Jake Shimabukuro ’cause I recently went to his concert, so I was obsessed with his mad skills. He really knows how to WOW a crowd and keep them interested even though it’s just him and his ukulele.

I recently got back into Japanese music and came across a neat gentle rock tune. The song is BANDAGE by Akanishi Jin from the group KAT-TUN, which is the theme song for the upcoming movie Bandage. The song is pretty catchy and grows on you. There’s a bit of electronica, some synthesizer here and there. The vocals are faint, but definitely matches the dated late 80s feeling.
