I, major MMO geek Jeffery Kuo, have decided to dedicate his one month of winter break to playing Final Fantasy XI. This will be my first time playing the Square Enix MMO, and I will be venturing the lands of Vana’diel with a fellow real life friend. I bought the Ultimate Collection game(includes original and all expansions) for $11 USD off of Steam (although there was an extra $1 that wasn’t included that I had to pay while verifying the game, etc). You know, there normally isn’t a pre-playing impression to be written about an MMO (because it’s just sign up, DL, and play right?) But I can tell you, I haven’t even made my character yet and it’s been a real pain in the A to just get the game set up.

After downloading the incredibly huge game, you still have to set up the entire PlayOnline stuff. This process took a tedious hour, which was probably the most confusing time I have ever had to just simply sign up for any MMO. One of my ex-FFXI player friends from work told me about how much of a pain it would be, and it was true. Not only do you get some random ID but you have to get an e-mail specific to pol.com (playonline). I’m not going to lie though, the interface is pretty cool looking, and the PlayOnline manager makes it seem like I have my own little mini-pc to prepare to play any games that I own through them(and the graphics on it are really cool too). I can’t wait to play Final Fantasy XI however, and I can’t wait to tell you guys all about it! Once I create my character I will let you know what server/character I am if you want to join in on the action. Cheers!
