As a gift from my parents I unwrapped 3 used games from GameStop on Christmas. Later on, when I was organizing them on my shelf I was cursed with the task of removing those florescent yellow not-so-removable price stickers that GameStop feels the need to plaster all over the box. There was a total of 3, three. Is there really a need to have 3 price tags on a surface that’s less than a foot? So 3 games at 3 stickers a piece means I had to remove 9 stickers, this took 30 minutes. 30 minutes of scrapping, peeling, licking, and rubbing to remove those last remnants of Crazy Glu that GameStop insists on using to label their products.

After spending way too much time making my new additions look at home, I was left slightly irritated and sticky, only to open up my disc to find Cheeto encrusted fingerprints on my disc. This is where my slightly irritated self became fully enraged. I mean come on GameStop, I know you check your discs for scratches before the games are even traded in, so how did orange finger prints miss your detection? They didn’t! You saw them, realized that the disc was still acceptable and entered it into stock. But couldn’t you have at least cleaned the disc off with a Wet Nap or something.

The bottom line is that, yeah sure they’re used, but that doesn’t mean they should be ugly and dirty. I’ve traded in games in pristine condition and received the same credit that Cheeto guy got. If you’re not going to instill some sort of bonus credit for games in good condition, at least make sure your discs are presentable.

This may just be a post-holiday ramble, but I’m sure it has irked others at one point or another before. Rant with me below!

^ It probably depends on the game at the time of purchase/trade-in.

I know what you mean about Final Fantasy games. I buy them on release date. I can’t wait for them either. =)

I do the same with CD jewel cases when they crack on my favorite ones. I change them with the CDs I don’t care about. =)

I actually rarely buy games from a store. I buy my new/used games online since most of the time they’re cheaper and complete (no beat-up case or missing manual, I hate that). But once in a while Best Buy, Fry’s, and sometimes Gamestop will have better deals than the average online price. And that’s when I encounter the sticker problem. =\

And a comment on greatest hits versions: Ugh! That red label ruins the cover. I like getting first prints, especially if they have a special cover or some bonus.

^ Haha. There’s one more exception. For gamse like Final Fantasy, one like me doesn’t like to wait a couple months for the price to go down and buy’s it new there :X. BUT, I remember scoring new games $10 off at Best buy and Fry’s. Gamestop doesn’t do that kind of thing.

angrytetsuo: How did that happen? Most games are only 2 bucks cheaper used. I mean the games here are 17.99 for greatest hits and 34.99 for a usual 39.99 game and 54.99 for a PS3 game. Offering me 2 bucks for a used version.

And here’s what I do with Out of date, “Can’t sell for shit” Sports titles…Use their cases for other stuff! In case I buy a game with a beat up cover/case I can sacrifice good old NBA Live 08 ;)

^ Haha. Didn’t know you could do that, though I’ve never traded in a game before.

I feel the same way about those stickers. Sometimes, I scratch the case by trying to take them off. I really hate that.

And yes, Amazon all the way for me. They’re almost always a few dollars cheaper, no tax (at least in Cali), and no shipping charges over $25. I also like their new incentive coupon bonuses with selected pre-orders. Like Danny, I only go to Gamestop for their bonuses, exclusives, and special limited edition stuff.

I hear that! In the past I have been able to scam them back, meaning that I have bought a used game and cleaned all the stickers off then take it in the next day and say I dont have an account with you will you buy my game, they paid me more than I paid for it! Take that Game Stop!

BTW, I can buy new games, and better condition new games at Amazon 100% of the time vs. Gamestop. The only time I go to gamestop is to get bundles, consoles or special limited editions.

EWW! The used game shit that Gamestop pulls off is criminal. You save 2 dollars off the new price!? And for what, a beat up version of the game? Especially since they mark up the game 1700%

For example: When I was buying Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, i had my PRISTINE copy of Call of Duty 4 with me. I don’t know about you, but I keep the delicate plastic sleeves of the cases even micro scratch free. I knew they’d offer me pennies on the dollar, but I wanted to test them. They said oh you can get $1.50 for it. WTF??#$#$# I wanted to rip out the cashiers throat at the time.

I mean they have a USED copy that looks like a dog ate it and vomited it up for $37.99, which is 3000% more than offer people. So in turn they don’t even care how good the condition is ,”#1.50 they offer” I turned it to Amazon.com and sold my well cared for $22 and my also very pristine copy of Metal gear solid 4 for $20.99. LOL the next day MGs4 went “greatest hits” and went to 19.99 new. So I made out.
