I’m outraged. A 9 year old boy was stabbed to death by a 25 year old who was supposed to be watching him. It’s a sad story but that’s not what I am angry at. I’m angry at this:

“He was killed over a game.”

This is the first line of the NY Daily News article that reported about this crime. And it continues in the same vein, mentioning the fact that the boy was killed because of a Tony Hawk Playstation game.

Look. It was past 3 AM, the boy was being watched by a man who did not “act right on the street.” The kid happened to be playing a video game when it happened. Just because it happened WHILE he was playing a game does not mean it happened BECAUSE he was playing the game. (Correlation does not imply causation!) If a 25 year old decides it’s a perfectly good idea to stab a little 9 year old boy, there is obviously something more to this problem. In fact, I fail to see what the video game has to do with any of this. If the boy had been up at night drinking tea, could the papers say that he was killed over tea? Or reading a book or getting a midnight snack or… you get my point.

I thought we were beyond blaming video games for the deranged acts of mentally unstable people.

wth!? That’s some bad journalism. It should be he was killed WHILE playing a video game, not “over a video game.” Really, there’s a difference. Geez, this makes me mad too. They didn’t have to make it seem like the cause was because of video games when in reality it had nothing to do with it.

i actually learn from some video games. and its improve my hand coordination skills. video games aren’t all that bad.

its scary that that boy looks like my dear cousin. hope something like this never happens to him… RIP little boy.

whenever something goes wrong, always blame video games..
