Remember Irrational Games? You should. They only created some of the greatest PC games in existance, such as System Shock 2 and Tribes: Vengeance. And then they disappeared into the ether, devoured by a larger gaming company, Take-Two Interactive. And then, well, they did what they do best: they released an awesome game. What was the name of the game? A little number you might’ve heard of… we call it Bioshock.

And now, guess who’s back?

Okay, so they haven’t broken free of the shackles (or the unlimited money supply) of our publishing friends Take-Two Interactive just yet. Instead, both 2K Boston and 2k Australia have reverted to their former identity, Irrational Games. Why? According to GameInformer, the name of their company was repeatedly followed by the inevitable words “formerly Irrational Games”.

Let’s put it this way: Irrational Games is a way cooler name than 2K. Besides, Irrational Games has a history of high quality, if never (before Bioshock) immensely popular videogames - we’re talking SWAT 4, System Shock 2, Freedom Force, and Tribes Vengeance. Irrational has always had positive street rep in the video-gaming world in a way that the rebranded 2K simply didn’t. So the decision was obvious: Irrational has returned.

Their new (or old, depending on your point of view) website is sleek, art deco, and clearly Bioshock-related. But Ken Levine, one of the founders of the original Irrational Games, explains: the site is about secrets. About what doesn’t make it to your boxed copy, or in this day and age, to your digital download. About cut content, about things that never made it past the drawing board, about suggestions by fans or words by employees. Find thoughts about past games, future games, listen to their Irrational Behaviour podcasts, and many things besides.

Welcome back, Irrational. We’ve missed you.
