Just a quick word on everybody’s favorite co-operative zombie murder simulator Left 4 Dead 2, as Valve does what they do normally and updates their blog. Besides the upcoming “The Passing” DLC, looks like a major update is coming to both the PC and the poor, neglected XBox 360 versions of the game.

The first bit of news is that the L4D2 team is FINALLY adding Infected Bots to Versus mode. Why they didn’t do this before is known only to the coders, but from an outside perspective they already had all these crazy bots in single-player mode - where were they until now? Who knows, but hopefully the days of a single Hunter attempting to take down a single human… a single human and his auto-aim semi-invincible bots… are over. Although knowing how L4D2 always turns out, maybe not.

The second concerns finale events and stats. The team is inching towards a solution that will maybe solve the bloody auto-spawning problem in finales, where the Infected team will pop out of nowhere in the middle of a location they didn’t choose and is almost always disadvatageous in many ways. I’ve been a huge, gurgling, incredibly fragile boomer on the wrong side of the map too many times to cope with autospawn anymore, so this’ll be a welcome relief for many players.

As is traditional with any patch, the next one is probably going to include a whole bunch of other minor fixes we’ll inform you about when it hits. Other things worthy of note in this little blog post include survival stats for versus finales, and news that progress on “The Passing” is proceeding along nicely. Apparently recording sessions are up next.

Oh, and there’s an incredibly cool interview with the developers about the visual design philosophy of L4D2. Y’know. If you’re into that kind of thing.
