Is Final Fantasy XIII Going To Be Too Easy? »

Square Enix has released a new trailer for their upcoming title “NIER.” The trailer gives insight into some of the combat and “enemies” that we can expect to see. There are also hints of allies but there is no speech during the trailer so we don’t really know who these people are yet. If you haven’t been “in the know” about what NIER is then here is a little insight into the game itself and what we can expect when it is released.

NIER follows the protagonist, appropriately named “Nier” on a journey to rid the world of an evil darkness. The “Black Scrawl” virus has taken over the world and left it a horribly desolate place filled with evil creatures. Worse, Nier’s daughter has been infected with the Black Scrawl virus, so he sets off on a quest to discover an antidote and save his daughters life.

NIER has some key features that Square Enix is underlining for the release of the title including things like: Powerful and unique melee chain attacks as well as devastating magic attacks. The ability to master a variety of different weapons, each having its own advantages and disadvantages in battle, and vast and excellently designed worlds. The game also promises an enticing and colorful storyline which is something that we have come to expect from Square Enix and is some what of a standard for them.

To me, it looks like the game has a “Ninja Gaiden” style of gameplay and a “Final Fantasy” looking style of design. The trailer shows some very intense and well designed graphics, as well as some interesting looking characters and enemies. I think we can expect some great things from this title and it appears to me like it may be a “sleeper hit.” But don’t take my word for it, check out the trailer here.

haha I do a pic 2 paragraphs pic sandwich. I guess I like my blogs meatier.

Also yeah I went to pick up MAG at midnight just now XD and I saw the box for Nier… I’m intrigued. I remember first seeing it in ps mag and all they knew about it was.. a picture. I also think it’s cool that it’s going to be two separate games, one for ps3 the other for 360. Or so I’m led to believe. <_<


Hah! I’m glad you like it, I just can’t stand having a paragraph of text without a picture over it. Maybe it’s because I am ADD li-- Oh Look a pretty picture.


Yeah this is Square’s entry into the next generation, more mature type games. I think its supposed to be more of a bloodier game? I’m not sure about that one, but do know its more mature and dark to suit American audiences.

sidenote: Very nice Russ! U follow the pic, paragraph, pic, sandwich thing I like to do wink I started using it to not scare off those with ADD (real sufferers and lazy/time constrained people)
