Now I know this is going to come off a little braggy, but that’s not my intention whatsoever. The idea is to get angry at the television manufactures, not me. So, here it goes. 2 years ago I got a 46” Samsung LCD for Christmas. Great, right? Well yeah, it was up until this year. This year I’ve ran into a little problem called, your-giant-TV-sucks-now. Sucks may be a bit of an exaggeration, but roll with. My setup consists of a cable box, PS3, Xbox 360, and a WD TV. Can you see my problem yet? Well if you can’t, it’s that I need 4 HDMI inputs and only have 2. Continue after the jump to here me complain some more.
1 of those 2 HDMI ports is reserved for my cable box and there’s no real way around that. That leaves my other open HDMI port to act as a strumpet and become home for my 3 rotating devices: PS3, Xbox 360, WD TV. I’ve nicknamed her Sally. Sally, woman of the night.
Big deal right? I would love to have your problems, is what you’re probably saying to yourself. Just get a HDMI hub and be done with it. Yeah, I’ve tried that. Problem is that leaves me juggling 4 different controllers: TV, Cable, WD TV, and now the remote for the HDMI switcher. Not to mention that I have yet another piece of equipment to find a place for.
Sure it can be done and it’s not that big of a deal, but should I have to deal with any of this after only purchasing my TV 2 years ago? It seems that it may have been my fault that I didn’t have the mental resources to pick a TV with more than 2 ports, but at the time that was pretty much the standard.
I am fed up with technology not matching up across the board. If we’re in the HD era, then get there already. If everything needs an HDMI input, then put more of them into your sets. Companies need to start making their products a bit more future proof for consumers, because its getting a bit out of control. And now they’re pushing 3DTV. Are you kidding me? Most of us just joined the HD club, give us some time to bask in its glory!
