I don’t just mean on any night. If you go to GameStop at midnight on a typical night then you probably broke in (and that’s no good). I mean on certain special nights when the store opens select locations at midnight for those fans who can’t wait for regular store hours to get their hands on a newly released game.
Like on January 26th, when over 2,500 GameStops all over the US opened their doors at midnight to sell copies of MAG and Mass Effect 2… two highly anticipated games coming out that day. Even if you’re not a huge fan and can wait to get your hands on a copy of a game, I still recommend you visit a midnight opening at least once. Here’s why.
1. Bragging rights
Of course, most important is that you will have a copy of a huge new game before all your friends do. Just think - by the time your buddies drag themselves out of bed to buy a copy, you will be halfway through the game already (and passing out… ).
2. Laid back atmosphere
In my experience, GameStop staff are pretty cool people. I mean, they work in a video game store… what’s there not to love? (besides customers, that is. But take away the customers and it’s the perfect job!). At midnight, there are only a few people working, and even less people shopping. As a result, the atmosphere is very laid back and friendly. The GS employees aren’t so much working as… hanging out.
3. New gamer friends
Over the course of the day, many different kinds of people visit GameStop, and not all are gamers (think: the mother buying a game for her child). Chances are, though, if someone is willing to visit a video game store late at night, they are a gamer. Visiting GameStop at midnight is a perfect way to meet new gamer friends in your area. You know right away that you have at least two things in common - you both play video games and you are both fans of whatever game is coming out (unless there are two games… and they’re really there to get ME2 and not MAG. The nerve!).

If it’s within a few miles, you can just walk. Though you’d want to start walking before it turns pitch black

I don’t think my parents would drive me to a game store in the middle of the night XD
My parents wouldn’t do that either. Good thing my brother’s into video games too (or at least I could drag him with me). =)

lmao you guys are all awesome.
Yup I got a modern warfare poster and cool paper night vision glasses for free! Some other people got little COD parachute trooper toys.
Wahh! I love freebies! I shall plan to attend one.
Haha. I would never go to Gamestop at midnight. They already try to rip you off with their crazy used game prices. Now they’re almost a monopoly on used games. Ugh. >.<
They sell used games at Game Crazy, though I’ve never bought from there before. You could always try online. It opens you up to a huge market and a lot of good deals. I get most of my used games online usually for the same price or even less than Gamestop’s used game price, and they’re usually in like new condition.

^ Whoa really!? I’ve never been to a midnight launch. That sounds like fun. Hmm. I’m tempted to go to one now.

Aaaaand you get free pizza, energy drinks, posters and other cool swag!
I’ve only ever waited in line once, when Modern Warfare 2 came out, and it was an awesome experience. We got there around 10:30 and ate pizza while playing the game on the in store set-ups until around 11:30 when they told everyone to leave and line up out front! We also have become friendly with the employees now too, so #3 is dead on!
I’ll be going to a lot more launch parties now!
