Do you want to be a part of a World Record? If so, all you have to do is dress up as your favorite Star Trek character and book your ticket to London.
As a promotion for the brand-new Star Trek Online, Namco Bandai recently announced they are attempting to set the Guinness World Record for “largest gathering of people dressed us as ‘Star Trek’ characters.” Lee Kirton, head of PR for Namco Bandai Partners, had this to say in a statement:
“This is the chance to become part of history with a ‘World Record’ for the largest group of dressed up Star Trek characters in one place. Namco Bandai will also have a bunch of fantastic prizes up for grabs on the day for the best dressed ‘Trekkers’ and some prizes for just being part of the day should make it a trip worthwhile!”
There are a number of key advantages to showing up at an event like this:
1. Cosplay is always more fun when other people are doing it.
2. Free stuff — that is not including the $1,000+ you’re going to spend to get yourself in London (or the price of your Jean-Luc Picard outfit).
3. Somebody else there may actually speak Klingon.
4. You can probably find yourself some friends to play online with.
Star Trek Online, as a brand-new MMO, is obviously looking for creative new ways to get people on board. Maybe this move will bring in some subscribers — if not, I’m sure someone will make a really great Youtube video about it.
