As many of you probably know, yesterday marked the start of an epic phase in the gaming world. Blizzard finally launched its Beta phase for the new Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty game. After having messed with the original Starcraft for THE LONGEST TIME (you know how long it’s been, with those outdated graphics and semi-awkward gameplay), having the chance to finally unveil this new horizon has been nothing but A+ for me so far.

Let’s just put it this way: you should have seen the look on my face when I saw the login screen. I was already mesmerized. Better yet, you should have seen me when I played my first game. To keep things simple so that I could check out all the nooks and crannys of the game, I played against a computer opponent. As a faithful Terran player since Starcraft days, I again chose my human allies, and together we set off to face the enemy. Already I’m impressed by the newly expected graphics that don’t disappoint, and finding that when zoomed in, the detail is much better than expected (I was already satisfied with Warcraft’s mouse scroll wheel function, but Starcraft II’s beats it 10 times over). The graphics are great additions to the gameplay, and allow for smoother and more satisfying pwnage (It’s so pretty.).

Another thing I noticed was the background music. My roommate CAN NOT get over the awesome soundtrack (and neither can I for that matter). After plugging in my new speakers to my computer, the soundtrack sounded amazing!! It is definitely something to pay attention to when it comes out. In my roommate’s words, “I haven’t even played the game yet and I just might have to buy it when it comes out for the soundtrack.”

I also feel the gameplay has gotten a lot better, and allows the gamer to have an easier time while playing (especially compared to how it was during the Starcraft days). There are more features, and this leaves someone who was a more Warcraft type player very content. Playing a match on this new high-end RTS leaves a gamer satisfied. This game is one of those reasons why I will always continue to be a faithful PC gamer, and is definitely something I could get addicted to. Time to test my skills on other people! Til next time! (If I haven’t lost my soul to this game by then.)
