Do you have too many gaming controllers laying around? Then Sony’s upcoming invention might be just what you are looking for. A patent was filed the other day showing schematics for an all-in-one universal console controller that will work with your Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii. Aside from the standard directional pad and 4 basic button inputs the device is equipped with a touch-sensitive LCD screen that will handle each systems unique functions.

Many are quick quick to assume that this universal controller is meant to replace game controllers, but it might only serve as a universal video playback remote. Every console this generation now has video playback of some sort, even if it is only via Netflix as is with Nintendo’s Wii. This assumption is the more plausible of the 2 since the schematics do not show the signature dual analogue sticks known to both Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers.

This would be really convenient and economical. But I like having controllers for each system. I think that’s just the collector in me. smile
