Earlier this week we heard reports from PopCap Games celebrating the fact that its wildly popular Plants vs. Zombies had made $1 million in sales during its first week on Apple’s App Store. Quite the accomplishment, but it didn’t stay on top of the Top Grossing section for long. In under a week’s time Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy port has risen above Plants vs. Zombies for the #1 spot.
Not impressed yet? Final Fantasy’s $8.99 price tag is 3x more expensive than the mere $2.99 Plants vs. Zombies charges, meaning Square just had a heap load of money land on their laps, over $3 million in under a week. That is not counting the money made from Final Fantasy II that is currently sitting comfortably in the #7 position on the Top Grossing list.
Now is the time to get excited Square fans! With the success of these 2 game we can expect more App Store renditions of our favorite Final Fantasy games, and maybe if we’re really lucky we’ll even get Chrono Cross!

That’s good. That makes up for FFXIII’s sales.
Good job Square Enix. I wanna steal my brother’s iphone so I could play them. I really hope to see more Square apps. A Chrono Cross app would be sweet.
