Final Fantasy XIII includes 6 summons, or Eidolon as they are called in this installment. 4 Eidolons are classic summons from the series and 2 are new additions. Summons have always been a high point for fans of the series and I can’t help but feel a little cheated with only taking control over 6 summons. Here is a list of 5 summons we would have loved to see get an HD makeover.
5. Anima
The only time Anima has made an appearance is in Final Fantasy X, even then he was only available through an optional side quest. In fact, most of the time we spent with Anima was spent fighting him throughout the story. Anima was the second most powerful summon in Final Fantasy X and had a very interesting design to him. I would love to see an updated depiction of Anima as an Eidolon.
4. Knights of the Round
To many Final Fantasy fans the Knights of the Round summon is the pinnacle of summons. 13 gigantic knights going berserk of the toughest of bosses is just one of the reasons why this summon is adored. The other reason is because it reminds gamers of Final Fantasy VII, where this summon was last seen. It’s about time we bring the Knights into this generation’s consoles.
3. Leviathan
I don’t know what has gotten into the summon designers that worked on the past couple Final Fantasy installments, but their work looks a bit uninspired. Bring back a Final Fantasy IX inspired Leviathan and bring back some of the epic qualities this classic summon used to have.
2. Odin
Odin is one of those summons that gets better every time he makes an appearance. With every installment his armor gets more detailed, his horse more majestical, and his sword more epic. Fans love Odin because he is a legendary badass, an element every summon should embody.
1. Ifrit
Ifrit is the most classic of all Final Fantasy summons. He hasn’t missed a spot on the summons list since his first appearance in Final Fantasy III. It’s a bit insulting that he only makes a brief appearance this time around. Shiva and Ifrit are the 2 summons fans can expect to enjoy every time around and not including him as an active summon genuinely makes us sad.
Which of your favorite summons do you wish were playable in Final Fantasy XIII?
