How many times has your grandmother come over while you’re playing Halo and asked how your Nintendo game is going? Let’s face it, Nintendo has been the video game staple in households since the 80’s, so it’s no surprise that they would sponsor a education event that shows the good side of games. At least someone is doing it.
At the Dana Centre in London, a museum that “explores issues in contemporary science through dialogue, interaction, performance and art,” there is a big convention called Digifest. This gathering composed of five smaller events is attempting to show the public that not all technology is bad, and in fact, even things like video games have beneficial attributes. Nintendo is sponsoring the entire thing, hitting home the fact that they do indeed care about the public image of gaming, or want to push gaming to more casual crowds. Either way, showing games in a good light can’t be a bad thing.
The best part is all the events are free to the public (take that GDC!) and are very informative. If you happen to be in London while the event is going on, you can get directions and all that other good stuff at their site. It is good to see someone sticking up the validity of video games. Kudos to Nintendo.
