Boss battles in Final Fantasy XIII are challenging and there’s nothing you can do about it. In the past if you couldn’t get past a particular monster you could do a little level grinding until your attributes beefed up enough to slay the baddie with ease. This is not the case in the newest installment, level caps eliminate the ability to grind and force you to rethink your strategy the next time around. Do you miss grinding or are you happy to see it go?

Grinding has become an RPG staple, some find it frustrating and some absolutely love it, but none the less its been a part of the genre throughout its existence. But sometimes a change is needed and new approaches need to be taken in order to breathe some life into stale gameplay mechanics. While it is fun watching your characters progress to a level where they can manhandle even the most epic of bosses it often felt more like a chore than any thing else.

Capping level progression assures that the bosses maintain the difficulty that they were intended to have. It forces gamers to focus on strategy and to use their heads when battling rather than the brawn they spent hours increasing. It also keeps the pace of the game moving forward, in the past I have lost track of the story after spending a few days grinding my characters to unnecessary levels.
I support level caps because they help maintain the integrity of the challenge difficult bosses impose on the gamer and keeps the focus on the story. Do you miss spending hours chasing Cactaur for their insane amounts of XP? Or are you in the same boat as me and think its a beneficial restriction?
