Remember those days when calling upon Odin, Shiva, or Ifrit would guarantee the instant annihilation of all non-boss enemies. Summons used to be epic, their power was so immense that no ordinary foe would stand a chance against one and we loved it! So what happened in Final Fantasy XIII? Why are the Eidolons so pathetic?

It’s as if Square traded a Summons raw power for the ability to fight alongside the characters. I don’t know why this trade off is necessary. Why couldn’t we have the ability to take full control over an Eidolon and still maintain the integrity of their terror?

It’s pretty pathetic when there are still monsters left on screen after Odin enters the field of combat. It takes away from how special Summons are to the series. In this installment everything we’ve ever known and loved about Summons, their enormous power and elegant attack sequences have been stripped away leaving us with Eidolons that are only as powerful as the other members of your party.

How are you liking the new Summon (Eidonlons) system?
