We all know the big things that make God of War so great: the intriguing mythology, the great voice acting and non-stop bloody action to only name a couple of things. But what about the little things that make the game so lovable. Here are 5 tiny things that a God of War game wouldn’t feel right without!

5. Naked Chicks
Do we need them? No. Do we mind them? What are you crazy! Would God of War be the same without topless Harpies? Yeah, okay, you’re right it probably wouldn’t change the game that much at all, but after seeing Medusa topless can you imagine her with a t-shirt on? I didn’t think so!

4. Levers
Whether is a simple pull lever or one that you spin around in a circle, levers can be found all over Olympus. Sometimes they open doors, other times they rotate bridges, and a lot of the time they are missing handles! As annoying as spinning around a lever is, God of War wouldn’t be the same with a different mechanic.

3. Spiral Staircases
Have you noticed that these things have been in every God of War game to date? I have and you know why? It’s because every time I come across one I try avoiding walking around in a circle 9 times by jumping straight down the middle. And every time I curse at the game for not letting me!

2. Elevators of Death
You know the drill by now. Walk onto a platform, pull the level, and prepare to fight skeletons climbing over the edges and dropping down from above. It’s a classic gameplay mechanic, we’ve seen it 100 times in 100s of games, but who can really complain when given an excuse to swing your Chaos Blades around for a steady 5 minutes.

1. Cyclone of Chaos
It’s that move that you use every single time you fight, yet never get sick of it. L1 + Square for those who are better with controls than words. I am confident in saying that if you removed just this one move from the game it would not only piss millions of fans off, but it would take a lot of fun away from the combat system.

There are so many great things about the God of War franchise that sometimes we forget the little things that keep us coming back for more. Sure, none of these elements are anything spectacular, but tell me that you don’t get a warm fuzzing feeling when you pound circle a couple hundred times to raise open a door.

What are some of your favorite things about God of War?
