I’m always astonished when I hear gamers say they played straight through an entire game in one sitting. I could never wrap my head around how they could set aside 10 hours in a single day to beat a game. Don’t they have jobs? School? A social life? But I think I’ve finally figured it out. Sometimes the game is just so good that you physically can’t be drawn away from it. That game for me was God of War III.

Looking ahead at video games that are scheduled to be released this year, I see nothing that even comes close. Portal 2, maybe. Epic seems to be the buzz word at the moment to describe all things great, but God of War III even exceeds the farthest stretch of that word. To sum up GOW III quickly, the entire game is killing God after God. Nothing is done simply, every piece of dialogue, every battle, and even traveling from one area to the next is a big budget hollywood moment.

If you own a PS3, you owe it to yourself to pick up God of War III. If you don’t own a PS3, do whatever it takes to get one, even trade in your Xbox 360 if it comes down to that. It’s that good, plain and simple. It’s going to be a tough game to beat for Game of the Year.
