Manomio, the same developer who brought the C64 emulator to Apple’s App Store is now turning is focus towards emulators for both the Amiga and Atari 2600 systems. Which games are coming along with videos of them up and running on an iPhone are below.
Manomio has managed to secure the rights to the Amiga emulator and plans on releasing International Karate + and Turrican as the first 2 games for the virtual console. What makes a Amiga emulator far more exciting than the current C64 emulator that is now available on the App Store is that a ton of Amiga games are actually worth playing. Ghosts ‘n Goblins, R-Type, and Battle Squadron are amongst the titles that run smoothly on the emulator but have not had the rights secured at the moment.
Acquiring rights is also the what is holding back the Atari emulator from hitting the App Store. Manomio says they are still in early talks with Atari at the moment, so it is best not to let our hopes get too high at the moment.
Let’s hope that these upcoming emulators do well in the App Store because if they do, we can expect bigger and better emulators to come down the pipe in the future. I have a few GameGear games I’d love to see hit the App Store.
Expect to see the Amiga emulator along with International Karate + in the App Store by early Summer. An enhanced iPad version of both emulators is said to be in development as well.
