Famitsu, Japan’s #1 video game magazine, has awarded Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker a perfect 40/40 score. Only 13 games since the magazine was first published in 1986 have received the prestigious award. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is the first and only game to receive a perfect score in 2010.

While many Metal Gear fans are delighted to hear that the next installment in the franchise received a perfect score from Famitsu, popular gaming blog Kotaku have other feelings, believing Famitsu’s perfect score is suspicious.

After reading their lengthy “investigative” report their theory appears to be grabbing at something that just isn’t there. It could be as simple as, Peace Walker is a good game deserving of the praise and nothing more. Metal Gear Solid games do have a pristine reputation amongst the gaming community after all. To top it off, Kojima himself has spoke of his personal involvement with the PSP title on numerous occasions and even granted it an official place in the Metal Gear storyline.

I guess we’ll have to find out ourselves when Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker releases exclusively on the Sony PSP on June 8th.
