From the studio who brought us My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, and most recently Ponyo brings us Ni no Kuni. The adventure game for the Nintendo DS follows Oliver, a young boy who just lost his mother, into a parallel universe called Ni no Kuni.
Ni no Kuni is Studio Ghibli’s first attempt at entering the video game market. The DS game, that resembles a storyline reminiscent of 2001’s Spirited Away, features the same style and quality of artwork that we’ve come to expect from Studio Ghibli over the years.
Studio Ghibli films are always handled with much care and as a result have tons of awards accredited to their works. Their knack for inventive storytelling and demand for quality pretty much guarantees that Ni no Kuni will not disappoint.
Level-5 the developer working on the game for Studio Ghibi is an esteemed figure in the video game industry, producing high quality titles such as Dark Cloud, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and most recently White Knight Chronicles, making them a perfect fit for Ni no Kuni.
This is a game I would suggest all DS owners keep an eye on. It’s highly unlikely that it will disappoint.
