With apprehensive breaths, I slipped the magical Heavy Rain disc into my Playstation 3, and began the installation of what is considered one of the most interactively cinematic driven games of all time. Open to the new experience, it took me a few minutes to become accustomed to the control scheme and the concept. I noticed a few things as the game continued however, and one of those was primarily the English dub of the dialog. These issues didn’t just throw me out of the environment, it shut me off to it completely.

A child isn’t going to say “Yes father, I would love one,” like a drone; a child is going to be jumping up and down enthusiastically excited with, “Please dad!? PLEASE!? can I have a balloon!? Can I!?” and of course the context of the sentence really should have set the tone; that line was just one of the many dialog car-crashes that I encountered as I played through the game. These travesties of language injustice took me directly out of the most intense moments of the game and left me with a “WTF” look on my face.

Best advice I can give, is next time you promise one of the most exhilarating cinematic experiences, don’t let something as simple as a dub destroy the tone of the game.

I agree. That was really the only fail of the game.
Whenever I get asked if I want a balloon I shit my pants.
(:
