We’ve got Final Fantasy VII, then came VIII, we could have guessed it was coming, but now it’s confirmed, Final Fantasy IX will be available for download on PSN in the coming months.

Shinji Hashimoto of Square-Enix tweeted last night that development on the PSN version of Final Fantasy IX has wrapped up and has now moved on to the testing stage where it will remain until a release date is scheduled.

The question now is, whether or not Square-Enix will continue bringing the remainder of their Final Fantasy franchise to PSN? Final Fantasy IX marks the last Final Fantasy title from the PS1 era and Sony has yet to announce whether or not the PS3 will ever get an official PS2 software emulator via a firmware update.

There have been however, multiple leaked images that suggest that PS2 games will indeed one day grace PSN. With E3 creeping around the corner and Square-Enix out of PS1 Final Fantasy games to re-release this year might be when they officialyl announce PS2 software emulation on the PS3.
