The writer responsible for crafting some of the best stories in video game history (Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger), Masato Kato, sent out a tweet yesterday claiming, “With the iPad going on sale, the age of Nintendo is over.” I don’t know what these ex-Square employees have been drinking lately, but whatever it is, the major side effect seems to be spewing nonsense.

Just the other day Final Fantasy VII’s director, Yoshinori Kitase, predicted that an HD update to his masterpiece would take 40 years. I want to believe these guys, I really do, they are some of the industries most brilliant minds, but they don’t seem to be making any sense lately.

Just to clear things up, the Nintendo Wii and DS has sold over 200 million units to date. Not to mention that its newest portable gaming device, the Nintendo 3DS, is getting announced in a few weeks at this year’s E3. I don’t think Nintendo is quite ready to pack its bags Mr. Kato.
