San Diego, California gamer, Daniel Wolf, has filed a class action lawsuit against Square Enix and Sony Entertainment of America over alleged widespread Playstation 3 system crashes that occurred during Final Fantasy XIII gameplay.

Wolf’s PS3 issues began the day he purchased Final Fantasy XIII and went to save his game data. During the save process his system locked up leaving him with no other option but to reset his system. When his PS3 booted back up, it would no longer play any forms of media (games, DVDs, CDs, etc.).

Angry, upset, and looking for a solution, Wolf made his way to Internet forums where he found many gamers reporting the same system crash under similar circumstances. It is important to note that while Wolf is only suing Sony, similar cases have been reported on the Xbox 360 as well.

The suit claims that both Sony and Square Enix are aware of the problem but each puts the blame on the other.

The class action suit seeks to obtain more than $5 million in damages.
