If you are like me, you finished Alan Wake on May 20th, two days after release. The game was epic, and though it hid many of its answers in that darkness tornado never to be seen by the player, the entire experience was still ultimately fulfilling. With that said, two days with a game that usually lasts over a month at the least is harsh. I came to a point where I figured I would sell it off, but only having it two days and taking quite a hit in terms of price really made me uneasy. I decided to shelf it and wait for the DLC that could be coming out before letting go of my prized possession. Thankfully I now know when that date is.

July 27th will mark the release of both the first and second episodes in the Alan Wake saga. The first DLC episode is called “The Signal” and will be free to anyone who purchased the game new on release date. The second is called “The Writer” (they do love being vague with titles don’t they?) and descriptions for both say that Alan will face “one nightmarishly situation after another.” Didn’t see that coming! (sarcasm)

My only concern with these DLC packages is that they are worth the wait. When the new Mass Effect 2 DLC came out, I was entirely disappointed. Not only did I get a measly 2 hours of gameplay, but I dropped about 10 bucks on top of that. Though the first Alan Wake episode is free for me, the second is also priced at ten dollars, bringing back the whole Mass Effect fear all over again. I guess we can only hope that the episodic content will hold its own, as well as flesh out more of the story that was left unanswered (and there was a lot of it!)
