Piggybacking off of the tremendous success freemium games like FarmVille have been having on social networking sites, Japanese game developer Acquire are bringing the free-to-play experience to home consoles for the first time ever with the RPG Bakumatsu heading to Playstation Network on June 26.
The good news is that Acquire’s assistant producer Luke Rideout guarantees, “it isn’t gutted or unplayable in any way,” and explains that, “Obviously we won’t make a profit on the main game itself. We mostly just hope that we can get the game out to a large base of players, who can enjoy the full main game for free, no strings attached, from beginning to end,” and adds that, “Those players who wish to add a little extra to the game, like more side quests or new items can support the game by paying for those.”
The bad news is that Bakumatsu only releases on June 26th in Japan. That is unless you are able to read Japanese and sign-up for a Japanese Playstation Network account.
