After playing Osmos on the iPad courtesy of Hemisphere Games, I can easily see what all the fuss is about. In playing Osmos, you control a molecule or ‘life form’ by tapping. The main objective of you as a molecule is to eat other molecules in the pursuit to be the biggest molecule. Like real life, the environment is pretty much eat or be eaten. True, this may sound like the premise for a lot of other games, but what sets apart Osmos from the rest is that it’s visually stunning.

Review Guide

Osmos is minimalist in design making it easy and relaxing to look at. The colors that compose all the different molecules are beautiful and rich. The movements of the molecules are also very fluid. If you’re having a stressful day, Osmos would do the trick of helping you de-stress.

The objective of eating other molecules to be the biggest molecule stretches across a half dozen different objective types, varying the challenge of eating other molecules. Sometimes you’re goal isto become the largest molecule on the level, other times you have to chase down an enemy molecule. There are even maze-like maps which require precise movements as you float gently among deadly giants.

Just as Osmos involves easy, floating motion through a cosmic environment, tapping control is pretty easy. Tap behind to make your molecule move forward, and vice versa. To speed things up in your game, you slide a bar towards the bottom of the screen.

So that you never tire of playing Osmos, the Arcade Mode includes a variety of different game modes or campaigns and you can even track your achievements in Openfeint!

Overall, Osmos is a great game that I highly recommend for anyone with an iPad.

The maps with centripetal forces are killers. I get a headache…

I recently grabbed this off the App Store too for my iPad. I am really enjoying it for the most part, but some of the levels can be a bit irritating. Its controls work wonderfully with the iPad though.
