StarCraft 2: Toss’in the Victory

OMG. Starcraft II. Yeah, that’s what everyone was thinking on that night of July 26, waiting for the midnight release. Everyone had been anticipating this game for over 12 years. And it is finally here. Now that I’ve finished playing the Starcraft II Beta, I’ve finally come to realize my favorite race of the entire Starcraft series: the Protoss.

I can’t wait to play this race when it becomes my turn to hit the Starcraft II ladder for multiple reasons. The funnest reason? Cannon rush. I can’t explain to you how many times I have had fun using the Protoss cannon rush on enemy players. Not only is there fun in watching your opponent have no idea what to do from an unsuspected arrival in their base, the satisfaction of watching your opponent sometimes nerdrage and quit makes it all the more worthwhile. If done correctly, this simple strategy can prove to oust even some of the most arrogant players, all because they didn’t check what was being built in their base.

I’ve also come to the conclusion that Protoss have awesome ground units. Grab a group of Colossi and you’re on your way to demolishing the enemy base. The downfall? They can be attacked by air units also, but so what? They destroy quicker than they are destroyed. Even the simple Immortal can prove to be devastating in groups. Have a group and its GG for ground units. Especially for Zerg. Sorry Zerg, Protoss ground units are the bane of your existence. Couple yourself with a good partner and you’re on your way to victory.

Overall, I can say my most played race in the Starcraft II beta was the Protoss race, and it has definitely appealed to me more than Terran and Zerg. For some reason it just comes off as funner and more different than the other races. Maybe it’s because I liked watching that one opponent of mine rage quit when he was ready to leave his base and saw a multitude of cannons in front of him, leaving him with no army anymore. Or maybe it was because of that one time I massed a bunch of carriers and completely filled the screen with interceptors. Either way, I can’t wait to play as Protoss. Get ready to Toss’in the victory to me.
