Even though it has only been a week after StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty™’s highly anticipated release, Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. has already announced the phenomenal success of the sequel to the 1998 hit StarCraft. Not only did it become 2010’s bestselling PC game within 24 hours of its release, a feat achieved by having over a million copies sold worldwide in a mere day, but it is also now recognized as the bestselling strategy game of all time. Strategy game developers now have their work cut out for them–if they want to best StarCraft II’s record, they’ll have to sell more than 1.5 million copies by the second day of the game’s availability.

StarCraft II was made available in 11 different languages and released to a whopping 17 different locations all over the world (North America, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau), covering the span of 5 continents (maybe that’s why over 8,000 stores worldwide were open after midnight on July 27, StarCraft II’s release date), to ensure that “as many players as possible were able to log on and play on day one.” Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, also stated: “We’re pleased that so many people around the world have already picked up a copy of the game, and we look forward to welcoming even more players to Battle.net® in the weeks and months ahead.”

Although StarCraft II continues the storyline of rebel Jim Raynor from the first installment, players will undoubtedly notice new faces and a revamped and enhanced online battling system, just to name a few things.

You definitely don’t want to miss out on experiencing the biggest strategy game of all time, so grab yourself a copy and let me know if it’s worthy of its new titles!
