Dear Diary,

So there’s something intense I’ve found out on the Starcraft II campaign, even more than the Armory and Mercenaries sections, and that is Research. I always resented the Research portion of my Science Fair projects, but I can tell you it is SO worth it in Starcraft II. Every mission there are special objects that you need to discover with your units during the mission, and doing so rewards you research points in either the Zerg or the Protoss areas (depending on the mission). What happens is that the Research Lab aboard your Battlecruiser uses those items to develop ways to enhance your buildings and units through some scientific process.

All I can tell you is this: The Research is way too OP. Good thing it’s limited to only campaign mode, and that you have to make a decision based on which research bonus you prefer. Of course, the more research points you rack up, the better the research choices are as you get farther down the ladder, but every benchmark of research points you earn for a side will cause you to decide between 2 different upgrade options. I already trained my first one, and it in result adds a turret to my bunkers that automatically attacks enemies. It was either that or a fortified bunker, giving it an extra 150 health points. Looking down the line though, some upgrades are seriously amazing. Instantly made Supply Depots and automated Vespine Gas retrieving Refineries are just to name a few. If this wasn’t limited to campaign, think about how overpowered the Terran race would be in ladder matches. Thank goodness it is. But seriously, I’m loving it.

Sincerely,
Jeffery Kuo (Ninja)
