Actually, Sony never “confirmed” the PSP2 before. But we’ve all been under the assumption that whatever news there was on a handheld from Sony, it had to be the PSP2. However, just yesterday, Sony has announced that they will have a press event in Tokyo on January the 27th, announcing the new handheld. We’ll finally see the PSP2 in a few more days.
According to MCV, publishers were informed late last year of the plans for the PSP2, and some parties are already working on titles for the device. Sony has claimed that the device will be as ‘powerful as the PlayStation 3′, and is working on its advertisement strategy for the upcoming year,
The new handheld is expected to arrive within the Q4 period, perhaps as early as October, and includes a HD screen with twin-stick controls; Sony has already talked to publishers about launch timings and the first wave of games with more reveals at GDC and E3 after this month’s first tease.
It looks like Sony’s been busy last year.
