Grim Joggers is a platformer and endless runner game that lives up to the saying, “Get fit or die trying.” The objective is to keep a team of 15 runners alive while jogging through 3 different terrains filled with deadly pits and lethal vegetation. It’s a harsh way to stay healthy, but apparently you as a Grim Joggers player have signed your life away to jogging for survival. Or shall I say jogging, running incredibly fast and jumping crazy distances to avoid obstacles.

Review Guide

Gameplay is incredibly easy. You control a line of 15 joggers by controlling the lead jogger. What the lead jogger does is what everyone else does. Tap once to jump, tap twice to double jump over bigger gaps. While this sounds easy, the challenge here is to account for the rest of your line. Making your leader jogger jump over things doesn’t necessarily spell out success for those behind. Jumping too soon or too early could lead to dead joggers or joggers who’ve temporarily split the route. Gameplay relies a lot on speed and fast reactions to the environment ahead. As you progress in a level, difficulty increases as your joggers begin to sprint, making it harder to foresee any upcoming obstacles. Being able to keep everyone alive burns a lot of calories which in turn earns achievements such as the unlocking of an additional two levels.

Graphics and music express a retro 16-bit style which is quirky and fun. Also equally fun is that a new fitness fact is shown between jogging sessions. What wasn’t fun however, was that I couldn’t really play it for long amounts of time because my eyes would start to hurt as the joggers ran faster. The game involves a lot of focus on the joggers and often times, too much focus would cause everything else on the screen to become blurry. I wouldn’t recommend playing it for long periods of time due to the strain it causes on your eyes. This was the one thing that kept me from fully enjoying the game.
