It has recently been confirmed by Sony that they sold 6.3 million Playstation 3s during the three months ended December 31st. This took a lifetime sales to 47.9 million. Microsoft, meanwhile, sold 6.3 Xbox 360s during the holiday quarter. And it lead to lifetime sales on the up at 50.9 million.
But you should consider the fact that the Xbox 360 console was released a year earlier than the Playstation 3s release. Nevertheless though, it is pleasing to see both consoles thriving still. Nintendo has seen a drop in console adoption recently, but it is still firmly ahead of the rest at 84.6 million units sold as of December 31st last year.
