The US Army recently spent $57 million on a new Dismounted Soldier Training System, or DSTS, from the firm, Intelligent Decisions, that is powered by Crytek’s CryEngine 3. The simulator supposedly contains realistic environments, realistic weather conditions and squad interactions, all powered by the same technology as that of Crysis 2.
However, instead of just being played on a PC, the simulation will run on VR goggles worn by the soldier, who can control the action with body motion control as they stand on a 10×10 foot pad and look around environments in full 3D. The sim will recreate infantry missions, and scenarios with air and land vehicles. It’s also playable with multiple people so soldiers can practice in squads.
