When it comes to gaming laptop, people usually go to the sleek and sexy brand known as Alienware. But ASUS has just released a brand new gaming laptop that might be easier on your wallet (if you call almost $2000 “easier”). A powerful hunk of metal and wires, if you ever need something intense that weigh more then your textbooks, this may be the one.
So the technicals, it has an intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics, 3GB of video memory, 12GB DDR3 RAM (out of freaking 16GB), dual 750GB 7200RPM drives, 1080p display, Blu-ray player, backlit keyboard, and a USB 3.0. socket (along with three of the 2.0 variety). That’s the first configuration, G74SX-A1 ($1,745), and then the $1,979 version with a 3D display, G74SX-3DE.
What this means, is it’s extremely powerful in handling processes (i7 is a brand new line of CPUs), extremely good at processing video (standard computers get 256MB for video memory, and if you’re lucky, 512MB. One gigabyte is a blessing in my world), and it is really good at storing random-access memory (which your computer needs to do everything and anything. All programs use up this memory).
Best of all it has twelve gigabytes! Most computers come with 2GB of it, and many people aim for 3 GB. Some computers can’t even hold up to 8GBs. So 12GB is one hell of storage system.
