Square Enix wants to provide music for your ears in its latest announcement to produce SQ Chips, a collection of chiptune tracks from all your favorite Square Enix games. From the Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger, Unlimited SaGa, Brave Fencer Musashi, and so much more!
But what are chiptunes exactly, it’s basically the synthesized electronic music or sounds that you hear in more old-school games; think 8-bit and Super Mario background music, almost like a beeping but in different, musical pitches, etc.
Wanting more of a classic feel, each of the game tunes will be run through a retro filter for that authentic 8-bit feel.
Set to drop September 7 for about ¥1890 Yen ($23.49 USD), which is considered cheap for Japanese standards for something like this.
Pretty cool project though, I can’t wait to hear a track.
