A recent report by NPD Group, a market research company, has revealed that the “core” gamer may be losing its spot to the “digital gamer” pretty soon.
Current numbers are showing that based on dedication and hours gaming, the digital gamer, clocking in 16 hours of gameplay a week, is right on the tail of the core, who is at 18 hours.
Concerning purchases, digital gamers have actually claimed the title and gone past what the core gamer buys, with an average of 5.9 and 5.4 games for each, that were purchased in the past three months.
Seems like its time for both sides to clock in more hours if they want to hold on to that number one spot.
The only strange thing is that it isn’t that clear what a “digital gamer” is from NPD. I would guess it’s someone who plays away from a console, like mobile or Facebook-type games but it’s unsure - interesting nonetheless.
What type of gamer are you more close to being, core or digital?
