Nintendo is planning to build a new research and development facility in Kyoto, Japan. A previous report by Nikkei has announced Nintendo’s plans for it in 2009 and a small follow up in March, but now it seems as though it is actually happening.
Nintendo plans to invest 16.5 Billion Yen (about 205.0455 Million USD) into the new facility, which is a bit more than the 12 billion yen that was previously reported.
Construction is expected to begin January 2012 in Kyoto’s Minami Ward on a 40,582 square meter lot. With seven terrestrial floors and a basement, it’s will potentially hold 1,500 people. Nintendo hopes to have the building complete by the end of 2013.
The goal of the new R&D building will be for Nintendo to strengthen its hardware and software development. It will also provide convenience since they’ll be able to house their staff in one location, rather than the split between Kyoto’s Higashiyama Ward (Kyoto Research Center R&D facility) and the main office in Minami Ward.
With everyone in one place, developers will be able to communicate information and ideas to each other more easily, leading to an improved production of new games with unique and competitive features.
Hopefully all goes well with the construction and then Nintendo can really start churning out some more amazing games.
